Keith Edgar, Managing Director of Peverel Management Services Ltd, explains the management structure and facilities at a typical Peverel managed retirement development.
The overwhelming majority of Peverel’s managed retirement schemes enjoy the benefits of the following.
House manager
At the majority of our sites a House Manager will be on duty from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, to ensure that all services and facilities run smoothly and to help you with any queries you might have regarding the development. The House Manager is a reassuring presence should anything go wrong; but there are limitations on the amount of individual help they can provide for example, they will not run errands for residents, provide physical assistance such as lifting or administer medication.
Emergency call system
All our developments have an emergency call system in place, providing round the clock security and peace of mind. Should something happen or an emergency arise, you only need to pull the nearest cord or press the button on your pendant, phone or watchstrap to be put through instantly to either the House Manager (during office hours) or Cirrus Careline, where a highly-trained operator will deal with the emergency in hand.
Residents' lounge
Most developments will have a communal lounge for the benefit of residents. The lounge provides a good focus for social activity and is used by residents for evening entertainment and social gatherings such as the weekly coffee morning.
Communal laundry
The laundry contains washing machines and dryers for the free use of residents.
Guest room
Guest rooms usually have twin beds and en suite bathroom, this means that residents can invite family and friends to stay at very reasonable rates.
Lift
All lifts are regularly maintained and are linked through to Cirrus Careline in case of emergencies.
Maintained gardens
Gardens are maintained on a regular basis by approved contractors.
Car park
All developments have car parking spaces which are usually run on a daily first-come, first-served basis.
Social activities
Many residents form social committees to organise activities and entertainment for the benefit of other residents. Typical activities include theatre outings, guest speakers and entertainers, bridge afternoons, coffee mornings.
Some developments may also include a hairdressing salon, restaurant or swimming pool.
Your Estates Manager - Regular visits
Every development has its own Estates Manager who will visit on a regular basis. Your Estates Manager works with the House Manager to ensure the efficient maintenance and running of the development, and is responsible for the preparation and presentation of the accounts.
